Jungles and rainforests, coastal villages, Mayan ruins and slow-paced islands. Belize is literally the place to go for the ultimate vacation. I wasn’t really sure what to expect before heading to Central America’s smallest island. After spending 10 days in Belize, it’s safe to say it soared up to one of my favorite places in the world.
Here’s the Ultimate 10 Day Belizean Vacation:
Day 1
Fly into Philip Goldson International Airport (BZE) and pick up your rental car across the street from the terminal.

Drive a little over 2 hours south to Hopkins, spending the night at the Belizean Dreams Resort. One of the highlights in Hopkins, apart from the picturesque sandy beaches, is the experience watching Dangriga villagers singing and dancing down by the water.
Day 2
After checking out of the hotel in Hopkins, drive a little over an hour south via the Southern Highway to Placencia. Check in to the Paradise Resort and spend some time enjoying some of the best-rated beaches in Belize.
Day 3
Check out of the hotel in Placencia and hop back on the road for another 2 1/2 hours to reach one the Toledo district, the southernmost area of Belize full of tropical rainforests and jungles.

While there are some options of places to stay throughout the Toledo district and in the capital of Punta Gorda itself, I couldn’t recommend the staying at the Cotton Tree Lodge more. This eco-adventure resort located on the Moho river features Mayan-inspired thatch-roofed cabanas with an organic farm and garden. They offer fresh farm-to-table food options and as many adventures as your little heart desires.

Spend the first evening relaxing at the Lodge, listening to the howler monkeys in the trees above. Enjoying a feast in a communal setting and relax on the hammocks overlooking the Moho River.
Day 4
Wake up early to enjoy a cup of coffee down by the Moho river before preparing for the adventures of the day.
Whether you’re wanting to embark on a deep sea fishing day trip, zipline through the jungles or visit Mayan lands, the Cotton Tree Lodge can arrange that.
Day 5
Spend another full day exploring around the Toledo district. Take a visit to the markets of Punta Gorda, the small Mayan village of San Pedro Columbia, the Rio Blanco National Park or hop around to the Mayan ruins sites of Lubaantun and Nim Li Punit. While these ruins are smaller and less popular compared to others throughout Central America, they hold so much significance to the history of the Mayans.

Day 6
After checking out of the Cotton Tree Lodge, drive the 5 hours back to the BZE airport to drop the rental car off. Hop on an afternoon flight to San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. Check in to the Isla Bonita Yacht Club and enjoy the sunset from one of the many public docks.
Day 7
Spend the day in San Pedro driving around on a rental golf cart through the streets and past the mangroves to Secret Beach. There are so many things to do in San Pedro other than relaxing at the beach like diving, chocolate making and flying.

Day 8
Embark on some more adventures in San Pedro before taking a late afternoon water taxi to Caye Caulker. Check in to an AirBnb or, if you’re on a budget, find a hostel with prices ranging from $10 – $40 a night.

Take an early morning hike around the southern trail of Caye Caulker before spending the entire day at the Split. Sunbathing and cooling off from the heat, this is the place to spend your time on the island. When golden hour hits, stroll over to the west side to watch the sun go down.
