Our beautiful oceans cover more than 70% of the Earth’s surface yet only 5% have been explored. With all of that mysteriousness surrounding the seas, it’s no surprise that travelers around the world flock to the best destinations to see what’s beneath the waves. Most of these diving locations around the world are famed for the opportunities they supply. Pristine weather on a daily basis which promotes an ecosystem of tropical and exotic species just off the shorelines.
Here’s Diving Around the World – Locations to See Under the Sea:
Australia
It’s no secret that some of the best diving locations around the world exists on the country/continent with the vastest coastline. Australia is dotted with fantastic coves and beaches where locals and tourists alike flock for regular diving.
No doubt, the most popular spot in Australia for diving is the Great Barrier Reef but, due to over-tourism and heavy traffic, the reef is quite damaged. Other up and coming popular diving spots in Australia include Darwin Harbour and Port Lincoln, where you can experience that exhilirating cage shark diving!
Belize
I recently embarked on a trip to Central America’s smallest country and was taken aback by how much beauty it had to offer.

The most popular place to dive in Belize is the Great Blue Hole, an ancient, giant marine sinkhole. Unbeknownst to me before my trip here, Belize is home to the second biggest Barrier Reef in the world, right behind Australia. On my last full day on Caye Caulker, we departed with a small tour company to witness the corals up close and what a sight it was. We also had the opportunity to snorkel around Shark and Ray Alley, which was one of the most incredible experiences I’ve had in all of my travels!

Indonesia
Thousands of small islands make up the totality of Indonesia, creating the perfect atmosphere for divers to start their explorations from. For a list of the best islands to visit check out the link here.
Some of the more popular diving spots in Indonesia exist off the coasts of Komodo National Park and Alor. Raja Ampat is another famous spot as it’s home to around 75% of all coral species. If you’re new to the diving game, Indonesia is a great place to begin!
Florida
Growing up in the midwest USA, I spent multiple weeks throughout the year in one of our most gorgeous states. If you take a look at the Sea Dwellers here, you can see just a few of the fantastic diving locations in Florida. Whether you want to go snorkeling or scuba diving, the Floridian coast, Gulf or Atlantic, is the place to be. The Florida Keys are particularly good for diving as the weather there is usually perfect and masses of sea life exist right off the coasts.
Malta
The very first island I had ever visited was this teeny little gem nestled in the Mediterranean.

Some of the best diving opportunities to be had in Europe is Malta as some truly magnificent topography can be found right under the surface of the waters. The sea caves and underwater sinkholes are so unique, it really is a must see while on a vacation. For the best time to go diving in Malta, visit between the months of April and September when the waters are warmest!
Thailand
One of the most epic locations I’ve ever been to was the Southeast Asian country of Thailand. Hopping around on Thailand’s islands is a top tourist activity on a visit to the country but not many things compare to diving down to the incredible corals.
Sadly, Thailand’s corals have seen detrimental damage in the past few years. It’s so bad that they’ve shut down National Parks to tourism so the corals can attempt to salvage themselves. Needless to say, diving with a reputable company is of utmost importance in Thailand.
The most popular diving spot in Thailand is on Koh Tao. Check out Rocktopus Diving for the best group to take you along on your adventure!
Iceland
I have a fellow blogger friend who just dived in Iceland and he said he would recommend it over and over again! Iceland is a perfect example as to why you really don’t need tropical weather to go diving. Jump in the pristine seas here to witness bottoms of icebergs up close and personal and, if you’re lucky, you can see some seals or polar bears!
For the clearest of waters in Iceland, head to Silfra Fissure. The movement of the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates created this crack in the earth so there’s a good chance you get to see some geothermal chimneys pumping hot water into the ocean!

I’ve been to a few of these spots but it was WAY too cold when I was in Malta to dive. Belize has some of the most beautiful diving areas. I need to go back and bring Anthony so he can experience it for himself. Also, begging him daily to take me to Thailand – hopefully I can dive there someday!

Belize is a dreeeeam you guys should definitely go back together! I’m sure there are somewhat-easy routes from NM area (please take me with you if you go haha) AND Thailand! I would love to go back, specifically for the Northern areas like Chiang Mai but also to try out some of the islands I didn’t get to see!
