You’re whizzing through life at the speed of light and living out the same routine you’ve been leading on for months, if not years. You wake up every morning, sluggishly make your way to the coffee pot, pack lunches, go to that dreaded 9-5, come home to do some cleaning and cooking, then before you know it the clock strikes midnight and it’s time to try and snag 6 hours of sleep before waking up and doing it all over again. You mosey on through the entire day, sit down at the end of the night and look back wondering if you did anything important or truly meaningful. You don’t really feel like you’re progressing in life, personally, mentally, or socially, and it seems as if the future doesn’t hold anything worth looking forward to.
Cue the wine and the ice cream, ladies!
Ahh. The curer of self-loathing and the healer of all distress. I mean, that’s why wine and ice cream was invented, right? For women who work their tails off with hardly any recognition to swig and binge-eat into another mental dimension that makes them see clearer. With a half a glass of wine comes strength and will, a determination that wasn’t apparent before you sipped on that sweet Rosé.
When you’re spooning mint chocolate chip straight out of the carton, you melt into a savory world where possibilities are endless, dreams are made and adulthood finally starts making sense.
I don’t think I could count on all of my fingers and toes the amount of times I’ve slouched down against the cupboards and onto the floor in the corner of my kitchen for a moment to myself. A moment to wallow in my emotions; a moment to reminisce on what I could have done differently; a moment to reflect on what I’m doing with my life; a moment to just slurp down a half bottle of wine & spoon ice cream straight from the carton, without anybody telling me I’m not allowed to.
Don’t feel shameful about those New Year’s resolutions you haven’t hit yet, the dirty laundry that’s piled up higher than the Empire State Building, or for not cleaning the microwave that has splattered leftovers stuck all over the side. Don’t feel bad for not sticking to your low-carb diet, or for those text messages you haven’t replied to, or for not hitting the gym yet this week.
Life’s seriously too short to try and be perfect.
Sitting on your kitchen floor and guzzling out of the bottle–no glass necessary–may not be the most proper or cleanest thing to do but it sure does wonders for your mental stability. It reminds you that you’re a fierce, powerful and independent woman that deserves everything good in the world.
Enjoy the smaller things, the little things that really matter, take time to breathe and don’t forget to treat yourself while you’re at it.
And remember… wine & ice cream is always necessary.
